About the Event
Taking Life For What It Is - When The Air We Breathe is Dangerous
What do we do when the very air that gives us life is taken from us? What happens in our bodies, minds and spirits when anxiety increases exponentially because of a code red (or purple) air alert? How do we move forward when we’re pretty sure cleaner air will return, but the longer view isn’t looking so good?
As air becomes thick with particulate matter, it behooves us to face the reality of our world even as the air clears and we’re back outdoors. It’s temporary, and we know it. Inevitably, another devastation will rob us of one of our essential elements.
The author Barbara Kingsolver has written that it is “time for us to take this life for what it is.” Sounds like an action mantra to me. So, I invite you to join us as we speak of our dependency on a natural world that is shape-shifting in its capacity to “feed” us, and consider our call to action in the midst of this reality.
“This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no party. This ain’t no foolin’ around.”
(Life During Wartime, The Talking Heads)
